Data collected on 9 March shows that the displaced population is highly vulnerable, and many basic humanitarian needs are unmet. Living conditions of new arrivals remain dire too. New REACH report “Destined to Migrate”, in collaboration with the Mixed Migration Centre, looks at the culture of migration in Kayes, Mali, and its effect on people’s aspiration to migrate- contrasted by changes in the European Union’s migration policies. Findings show that migration aspirations are generally undeterred by restrictive migration policies, paving the way for more irregular travel.
Out of the 41 million people displaced worldwide, over half are women and girls. Even more concerning is the fact that the repercussions and negative impacts of living in internal displacement seem to affect women more than men. REACH closely monitored and triangulated key findings from various assessments conducted in the Idleb and Aleppo governorates to provide comprehensive, timely and reliable evidence on the humanitarian situation of the 950,000 displaced persons on the ground. The overview highlights a clear and urgent need to scale-up operations in the region.
