Pairing satellite data with household surveys to locate high flood risk areas in the Central African Republic

In late 2019, a destructive flood event that occurred in the months of October and November in the Central African Republic (CAR) occasioned the displacement of over 100,000 individuals and causing considerable damage. Through remote-sensing, REACH conducted a flood susceptibility analysis to classify areas within CAR that are more likely to flood, in an effort to inform enhanced preparedness.

Chad: From displacement sites to host communities – Multi-sector needs assessment sheds light on the humanitarian conditions of refugees, returnees and hosts in southern Chad

Close to 100 000 refugees from the Central African Republic or CAR are currently settled in four southern regions of Chad adjacent to the border of the two countries. Most of the refugees first arrived in 2013 and 2014 when a civil war in CAR erupted, yet approximately 20 000 have arrived since December last year.
