In late 2019, a destructive flood event that occurred in the months of October and November in the Central African Republic (CAR) occasioned the displacement of over 100,000 individuals and causing considerable damage. Through remote-sensing, REACH conducted a flood susceptibility analysis to classify areas within CAR that are more likely to flood, in an effort to inform enhanced preparedness.

Central Africans continue to endure the many nefarious effects of a complex and severe humanitarian crisis. Yet for the first time in the country, and in spite of significant logistical and security challenges, a multi-sector needs assessment has been conducted to respond to the crisis in a targeted, prioritized and effective manner.

Bangui, the capital city of the Central African Republic, is slowly emerging from the onset of a major crisis sparked in 2013 by the ousting of President François Bozizé. Seven years later, IMPACT, via its AGORA initiative, is working within neighbourhoods to support local actors towards recovery.

Close to 100 000 refugees from the Central African Republic or CAR are currently settled in four southern regions of Chad adjacent to the border of the two countries. Most of the refugees first arrived in 2013 and 2014 when a civil war in CAR erupted, yet approximately 20 000 have arrived since December last year.
